Native People – Figure It Out: Single Review

Hailing from Folkestone, Indie Dance Quartet Native People are certainly on the rise. This year they have headlined KOKO for Club NME in London as well as reaching the top 10 in the spotify charts. Their  new single is called Figure It Out and is currently being backed by a UK Tour.

The song itself is a smooth haze of processed beats and synths. It seems to float along punctuated by a drum machine and the processed beats. What further enhances the feelings of lucidity to the song is the laconic vocal style being sparse and laid back in delivery. The song, although there is clearly a chorus, never experiences a great change in tempo it retains the same rhythms but does increase in noise and ambiance.

Now given the aesthetic of the track it doesn’t give the impression that it’s very guitar friendly. There is however moments of guitar used, with effects, to enhance the chorus with a small hook that gives the chorus a focal point but does not impede on the established instrumental. Native People’s latest track then is relaxed and smooth but it is also interesting and intricate so that it holds your attention comfortably.

As part of their UK Tour Native People will be headlining a Closeup Promotions showcase at the Komedia in Brighton on 15th November where there will be support from massively talked about Episodes.
