Swimming Tapes – Cameos: Single Review

‘Cameos’ is the new track by London based five-piece indie pop band Swimming Tapes. Their track has the capacity to both intrigue and soothe.

The track opens with quite a dark and foreboding baseline but soon shows its true sunset colours. The vocals ease you into the track which due to the harmless melodies, invites you in. There are nostalgic shimmering guitar melodies aided by the delicate distant vocals; punctuated by comforting guitar riffs.

The song has a strong ‘jangly’ element to it and an endearing hook which provokes happiness and assurance from places you didn’t know it lurked. It has a vintage sound to it but is thoroughly modern. The atmosphere it creates is akin to that of Suck it and See era Arctic Monkeys. Much like their past releases, Swimming Tapes have hit the nail on the head.

For fans of The Smiths and Tame Impala, this track is definitely a healthy dose of blissful escapism.
